Designer's Statement
Aspen Hamilton is a multi-faceted artist and designer with a background in academics, fine art, and the performing arts. With two A.A.S. degrees from Spokane Falls Community College and having attended Portland State University for art history, participating in several art showings, and over a decade of combined experience in multiple creative disciplines, Aspen brings an educated and experimental approach to her work.
Spending her childhood split between Los Angeles, CA and Spokane, WA, Aspen’s roots come with a worldly view and community values. Growing up, Aspen was often found with a camera, a costume, or a crayon, eager to express their inner world. In high school, theatre was her primary medium while she rediscovered photography at college, eventually obtaining her first A.A.S. degree from SFCC in photography in 2018. Afterwards, she studied Art History and Gender, Sexuality, & Queer Studies at Portland State University in 2019 and 2020. Upon returning to Spokane, Aspen worked as a studio family photographer until an injury led to a necessary career change. Looking back on her experience and skills in creative endeavors, graphic design was the next path to take, leading to attending SFCC again, graduating in June 2025.
Aspen interned at Downtown Spokane Partnership in the fall of 2024, taking on her first large professional project of rebranding First Friday, Spokane’s monthly downtown art and performance event. Additionally, guiding SFCC’s Graphic Design Club back to fruition, Aspen held two positions as President and Program Coordinator. Her mission was to dedicate the school year to reengaging the club within the program to create a tight-knit community and strengthen relationships with the local professional industry, rebuilding post-pandemic activity.
Due to experiences during their youth, Aspen has a desire to use graphic design as a means of helping others, whether that be through social causes, education, or arts-based projects. Future aspirations include designing in the music industry and strengthening illustrative skills, both 2D and 3D, to work with animation, book design, and more advanced design techniques.
